The Posad House

The Posad House is the only house of the 17th century in Suzdal. It is a very rare monument of the stone dwelling architecture in Russia and it occupies a special place among the numerous monuments in Suzdal. Unlike in the medieval cities in the west, dwelling structures - Russian cities had, were made of wood. Construction of stone living houses began to develop at the end of the 17th - beginning of the 18th centuries. At that time common people began to build stone houses. This stone house belongs to this building period. The house consists of two volumes dating back to different periods of time with individual gable roofs. The western part was built at the end of the 17th century. The eastern part with the over ground substructure was added in the 30-es of the 18th century.
