09/12/07Tonino Guerra Celebrated the 30th Anniversary of His Wedding in Suzdal
 On September 10, the famous Italian film script writer, artist and man of letters, Tonino Guerra, came to Vladimir and Suzdal with his Russian muse and wife, Laura. This year they celebrate the 30th anniversary of their wedding and (as the maestro put it) of “his love for Russia”. Tonino Guerra is a winner of six Oscar American Academy Awards, and festival trophies, such as the Golden Lion from Venice and seven Golden Palm Branches from Cannes.
 This visit to Russia started from Moscow where Guerra’s collection of lamps was exhibited at the Museum in Volkhonka street.
It was no accident that Tonino came to Suzdal. He is an old friend of the Vladimir and Suzdal Museum-Reserve and its director, Alisa Aksyonova. Guerra presented a collection of his paintings for the “Interwoven Fates” exhibition in 2003. It was here, in Suzdal, that the fates of hundreds of Italian prisoners of war interlaced with the fates of Tonino Guerra and his Russian friend, Andrei Tarkovsky, who had shot the film “Andrei Rublyov” not far from the Savior Monastery.
 Tonino and Laura were accompanied by their friends – Italian business men, musicians and poets. Guerra’s press-conference was organized in the “Palaty” cultural and educational complex in Vladimir. Tonino spoke about his love for Russian culture, complained of globalization which destroys national traditions in cinematography. He reminisced of his friend, Andrei Tarkovsky, grieved for the great losses in cultural life of Italy with the death of M. Antonioni and L. Pavarotti.
 “I have again fallen in love with a little lion with small crossed paws on the St. Demetrius Cathedral in Vladimir. This image is the testimony of pure naivety of the Russian artists. I am going to make a copy of the lion, – admitted Tonino.
A performance including A. Piazolla’s music and T. Guerra’s poems was given by the maestro’s friends.
