11/21/07“Your Feat Is Sacred, and Impulse Righteous”. Relics of the 1877 – 1878 Russo-Turkish War
A new exhibition with this name was opened at the Palaty cultural and educational museum center in Vladimir on November 21.
To take part in the ceremony of the inauguration were A. Aksenova, general director of the Vladimir and Suzdal Museum-Reserve; Eulogius, archbishop of Vladimir and Suzdal; N. Vinogradov, governor of the Vladimir region; A. Rybakov, mayor of the city of Vladimir; Pl. Grozdanov, Bulgaria’s ambassador to the Russian Federation; M. Asparukhov, director of Military-Historical Museum of the town of Pleven (Republic of Bulgaria); K. Lemzenko, chief-secretary of the Union of the Friends of Bulgaria in Russia.
This year Russia and Bulgaria celebrate the 130th anniversary of the beginning of the Russo-Turkish war which led to the liberation of Bulgaria from the Ottoman yoke. 200 thousand Russian soldiers and officers gave their lives for the freedom of Bulgaria. I. Aksakov, a prominent Russian man of letters, said about them: “You feat is sacred, and impulse righteous.”
The new exhibition is a result of cooperation between the museums of Pleven and Vladimir. The Bulgarian museum workers brought unique exhibits – e.g. a Russian emperor Alexander II’s uniform and some icons given by Bulgarians to grand prince Nikolai Nikolayevich, commander-in-chief of the Danube Army. Next to them one can see several items from the Vladimir and Suzdal Museum collection which have never been exhibited before – arms, banners, uniforms, pictures and military decorations.
