03/08/08Maslenitsa Festival at the Museum of Wooden Architecture in Suzdal
It goes without saying that the Suzdal land is the best place where a Russian daring soul can display itself with all its wideness. Maslenitsa (Pancake week) is the very time for it. The last day of the Pancake week, the Sunday before Lent is called the Day of Forgiving. (Everybody who feels guilty for something may apologize to his friends or foes – and by the old belief, this will eliminate his sins.)
Saturday, March 8 (on the eve of the Day of Forgiving), the Vladimir and Suzdal Museum will arrange a Pancake Week Festival on the territory of the Museum of Wooden Architecture in Suzdal.
The festival will flourish among wooden churches, houses, wells and granaries. Strong men, members of the Knight’s Spear military history club will come out for fighting in single combat demonstrating their might and courage. The old and young will have an opportunity to enjoy the seizure of a snow fortress. Everyone will be able to join a merry round dance together with the Radunitsa ethnic group.
And what about the Goose Fights which proved to be so popular with the guests of Suzdal? We hope that neither bird flu epidemic nor veterinary cordons will interfere with the festival. We expect that geese of different fighting breeds from the town of Pavlovo, Nizhny Novgorod region will take part in the festival.
Welcome to Suzdal to celebrate Maslenitsa with sun-shaped pancakes and traditional Russian drinks – sbiten and medovukha!
