03/17/08The Amber Cabin: Voyage Of the Naturalist Is Going On… Exhibition is Opened at the Palaty Museum Complex in Vladimir
Amber is petrified resin of conifers which grew on the Earth 38 – 120 million years ago. This “sunny stone” has been popular with many peoples since time immemorial. Amber was admired in palaces and temples, worn as decorations and amulets, used in pharmacology.
The Amber Cabin exhibition from the World Ocean Museum (the city of Kaliningrad) reveals numerous secrets of this wonderful creation of nature. The exhibition invites visitors to set out around the world in search of amber. To make the trip more interesting, the authors of the exhibition decided to connect reality with mystification.

Several years ago, curious notes by a certain traveling naturalist, dating back to the 2nd half of the 19th century, “were discovered” in the archives of the museum. Judging from the survived fragments of the manuscript this naturalist had a desire to write a book about his sea voyage in search of amber.
A thorough map of his voyages, provided with comments, tell us about wonderful meetings and precious finds.
Amber from 34 places of our planet (Haiti, New Zealand, Madagascar, Borneo, Fiji and, of course, the Baltic Sea) is exhibited.
More than 200 works of decorative and applied art demonstrate unlimited qualities of this material.
