On December 2–3, the Museum
will receive congratulations on its 50th anniversary.
The Vladimir and Suzdal Museum-Reserve was founded in 1958 by the Order of the Council of Ministers of the Russian Federation. According to this document the first museums-reserves specialized in history, architecture and art were organized in some of the Old-Russian cultural centers. That was the postwar period, when the country rose from the ruins, new cities and factories were built and the survived monuments of architecture were restored. At that time, together with the Rostov and Yaroslavl, the Novgorod, the Pskov, the Zagorsk, the Gorky and the Kostroma Museums, the Vladimir and Suzdal Museum-Reserve was created on the basis of the Vladimir Regional Museum and the Suzdal Art Museum.

The Vladimir and Suzdal Museum-Reserve is included in the State List of the Most Valuable Objects of Cultural Heritage of the Russian Federation,
was nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award,
is the Presidential Prize of the Russian Federation Laureate.
Today the Vladimir and Suzdal Museum-Reserve includes 55 monuments of architecture, 10 of which are enlisted in the UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List: the Golden Gate, the Assumption and the St Demetrius Cathedrals in Vladimir, the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral and the Kremlin ensemble, the Savior and St Euphymius Monastery in Suzdal, the oldest monuments at the villages of Bogolyubovo and Kideksha.

On December 2, in Vladimir, the Session of the Presidium of the Union of the Museums of Russia will take place. This initiative belongs to the President of the Union, the director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky, who took into consideration the merits of the Vladimir and Suzdal Museum-Reserve in the preservation of cultural heritage, taking into account the professional work of the Museum, the active introduction of contemporary methods into the museum activity, the acknowledged authority in the Russian museum association. Among the guests there will be M. Piotrovsky (Hermitage, Saint Petersburg), G. Grigoryan (Polytechnic Museum, Moscow),
A. Shkurko (State History Museum, Moscow). The directors of memorial museums, among which there are Spasskoye-Lutovinovo, Mikhailovskoye, Yasnaya Polyana, and of some museums-reserves will be acquainted with the experience of the Vladimir and Suzdal Museum-Reserve.
