01/27/10The Old Vladimir museum was opened after its repair
On December 9, the Old Vladimir museum was opened after its repair. The basic idea of the exhibition (its author was Lia Gorelik) and its structure were preserved. The equipment was substituted in the renovated museum. The picture of economic, public and spiritual life of old Vladimir was shown widely, with its positive and negative sides. Information texts were partially changed and augmented.
Some new materials were introduced. Among them, one can find the information about charity and noticeable events in the life of the city (for example, installation of electricity, construction of the building of the museum on the citizens’ donations, unveiling of the monument to Alexander II, the visit to the city by emperor Nicholas II), about the patriarchal structure of the life of residents of Vladimir, family traditions and others.
More than 800 exhibits are represented in the renovated exhibition, more than 100 of them appeared for the first time. Among them some interesting objects of furniture (a table decorated with mother-of-pearl, a beautiful outdoor mirror, a table in the shape of a bean), a telephone set of the beginning of the last century, a baby carriage, a sewing machine, a dish which was given as a gift to Nicholas II from the Vladimir noble men, a silver horn for feeding of babies. Watches, icons, church utensils, adornments are represented more widely. A lot of new documents and photographs of the city and townspeople, including family photographs appeared.
Artistic approach to the decoration of the exhibition was partially changed. Large picturesque photographs with city’s panoramas and some new mannequins in the cloths of that time appeared in the interiors. Changed interiors in the lateral shop windows, the central shop windows of the basic halls of three floors are in a new way designed, after creating the unique vertical connecting axis in the three-dimensional solution of the exhibition.
After visiting the museum, you'll enjoy a very picturesque view of the city and its surroundings from the renovated observation platform which occupies the upper floor of the tower.
