Maslenitsa Festival and Goose Fights in Suzdal

Geese fights are organized in SuzdalIt goes without saying, that the land of Suzdal is the best place where a Russian daring soul can display itself with all its wideness. And Shrovetide or Maslenitsa (Pancake week - a week before Lent) is the best time for this.

On February 13, the Vladimir and Suzdal Museum will arrange a Pancake Week Festival on the territory of the Museum of Wooden Architecture in Suzdal.

A farewell-winter festival will flourish among wooden peasant houses, windmills, wooden churches, wells and granaries.

Strong men, the members of the Kitezh and Buyan military history clubs will come out for fighting in single combat trying their strength.

All the guests will be invited for a merry round dance by the Radunitsa folk group. Balalaika strings will begin to ring and legs will start to dance themselves.

A poet said: "Ah, how many amusements there are in Russia", and he was absolutely right. Peter the Great established goose fights in Moscow and real goose fights are organized in Suzdal. There will be geese of different fighting breeds there and the choice fighters will come from the town of Pavlovo, Nizhny Novgorod region.

Welcome to Suzdal to celebrate Russian Maslenitsa, to try Russian pancakes and traditional Russian drinks - 'sbiten' and mead.
