It was destined that my fairy-tale name Alisa (Alice) got filled with real contents, as the world of the Vladimir-and-Suzdal museum, to which I gave my heart wholly, seems to be the actual "wonderland" for me. I came to the museum about 40 years ago with temporary intentions, but instead I stayed here for ever.
Russian culture sparkles with all its facets in our museum. First of all, your imagination will be struck by the aristocratic perfection of our white stone cathedrals in Vladimir and Bogolyubovo, by frescoes, decorating the churches and radiating like semi-precious stones in them and by the wealth of the architectural sights in Suzdal. Many architectural monuments house various exhibitions, created by the Vladimir-and-Suzdal museum.
Magnificent and integral ensembles of the Suzdalian kremlin and of the monastery of the Saviour and St. Euthemius were filled with such contents that they will satisfy any curious visitor. The old cathedral with frescoes and jewelers' art of the Golden Treasury exhibition; old Russian books and modern amateur art, prisoners of the monastery jail and prince Dmitry Pozharsky, as well as the Cross chamber, icons and the Golden Gates - that's what you can see in Suzdal.
As for Vladimir, there is "The siege of Vladimir by Batu-Khan in 1238" diorama, the Stoletovs' memorial house-museum, the "Old Vladimir" nostalgic exhibition in the former water tower and the splendor of crystal at the exhibition in a former church of the beginning of the 20th century.
Another museum of crystal is in the town of Gus-Khrustalny and it is in a wonderful cathedral with paintings by Vasnetsov.
Lately, the museum created the children's center in the former administrative building of the 18th century. It has many bright and theatrical exhibitions, representing different things from children toys to the world of the country estates of the local gentry in the 18-19th centuries. There is a painting gallery for art lovers. You can take a walk along the main street of the 19th century Vladimir, or touch an Egyptian papyrus or watch a weaver, operating an old weaving loom.
In our museum you can listen to the bells and gusli (old Russian string musical instrument) and enjoy the performance of church choristers. For all tastes, ages, interests, and intellectual requests!
The museum shows hospitality to everybody. You can even put up at the museum hotel, in the patriarchal comfort of an old Russian house enjoying the touching picture of sunset in Suzdal.
Come to Vladimir and Suzdal and will not regret it.
